Auditions consist of readings from the script. You will be given several pages of the script (sides) and time to read and study those pages. You may be asked to focus on a single character or several characters. The next step is to read the material in front of the director. The reading may also include others voicing lines of other characters.
The director listens, watches, assesses how you handle the story lines and other aspects, like line understanding, interpretation, tempo, and voice inflection. You may be given directions and asked to apply them. The director wants to see how you respond, how flexible you are, how you deal with directed change. The audition may also provide the opportunity to present a monologue you know well. If singing is required by the play you will be asked to sing, without accompaniment, a song you know well.
Members of the Celebration Arts dance company are selected from students in the Celebration Arts dance classes. The dance classes take place on Saturdays at 10:45am to 1:00pm at the First Talanga U Tongan United Methodist Church in the Oak Park district of Sacramento.
Contact James Wheatley at Celebration Arts (firstname.lastname@example.org). You will be asked to sing a song, and will be given vocal exercises to determine your voice range.
